I was looking forward to this moment ALL day yesterday. It is a time when I get to really dive deep into the hippy that lies within me. At 5:30pm yesterday, I was lucky enough to get to go to Shane's yoga class. Before I go further, I must tell you all a little about Shane...also known as, my long long hippy love. My slight obsession with Shane is actually a bit odd in that he is not the typical person I would have such feelings for. For one, he has long curly hair. He also wears lulu lemon which I think should clearly be a store only for girls. He also openly proclaims he is "addicted to yoga." You should always question someone that openly proclaims that right? Still, there is just something about his gentle touch a soothing voice that brings me back to him on a weekly basis. Okay so enough about that b/c I think I am even making MYSELF nauseous!
So to get to the point of the story...my big "moment" or "awakening"...I was in downward dog, it was about 100 freakin degrees inside, sweat dripping everywhere, and I felt like there was a good chance I was going to completely collapse b/c I was so incredibly dizzy, not to mention my eyes burned from the gallons of sweat dripping in them (and I pay to do this??? wtf???). So Shane begins one of his long talks.... He talked about the fire with in us....that within each and every one of us is some sort of fire, an incredible power, that if we ever came to a state of emergency, we could do incredible things...like lift a car (yes, he really did say that). He went on and on, and the point is, as hokey pokey and ridiculous as this sounds, I find myself in total agreement with him. It made me think of when I used to play rec soccer and my dad was the coach. We were in the County Cup down on Coronado Island. Our team was full of a bunch of misfits and really didn't deserve to be there in any shape or form. We were by far the WORST team there. So before the first game, my Dad gave a little talk to our team...it was what I would later call, the "Any Given Day" speech. In a nut shell, in sports (or in anything in life) or any given day, anything is possible. We went on in the tournament going undefeated til the finals. To this day, I have absolutely NO clue how we won ANY of those game.
So as I was in downward dog, Shane gentle caressing my back (hehe), I listened to his story, thought of my dad, and thought about my running...that is exactly why I love running; it's the anything is possible mindset, that you can be greater than you are on any given day.
The point of the whole story is that as the class progresses, and I had this deep intellectual moment in my head....I was left thinking, holy crap, I'm a freaking hippy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!
