Old People Music and Workouts

First things first...I would like to apologize to all my HUGE FANS for the delay in my blog. I know most of you eagerly stayed home on a Friday ngiht awaiting my post, so for that, I'm sincerely sorry. I would never ever want to let you down. The reason for my delay was that it took me a whole day to figure out how to condense how awesome I am into one single post.

After my Thursday am run workout, I mean, my KILLER run workout, I pretty much felt like I could conquer the world. Running blazing speed of 8min/mi was pretty incredible if I must say so myself. The workout went like this....
30min warm up
5x6min smashingly fast
10 min cool down

Let's just say I put the pedal to the medal and got it done...which is sadly the reason I don't have photos. Maybe next time some of my fans will take pics and send them to me :)

The main point of this blog however, aside from bragging about EPIC Thursday is that I had yet ANOTHER realization this week. Aside from coming out of the closet (admitting my hippy-ness), I realized that.....I like OLD people music! What the heck!?!?!?! Yep, it all started last Sunday evening at one of my students houses. Her 50+ yr old dad was playing Marc Cohn. I had no idea who Marc Cohn is but I was just thoroughly engaged by the music...it was so relaxing...or maybe it was just that the Calculus was THAT boring. Long story short, I busted home and downloaded his music...and it's pretty much awesome, like me.

So my Thursday workout included an ECLECTIC mix including...
1. Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis (yeah don't know how to upload You Tube...yeah I'm retarded....and awesome)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqEASYwINsU
2. Black and Yellow (terrible rap)
3. Hello Good Morning (yet another terrible song I like for some reason)
4. Even Better - U2
5. He Loves Us So (some Chrsitian song)
6. Old DMB

Yeah...clearly my music tastes are ....odd.

Alrighty, back to my old people music!...and the commune!!!

A Very Special Episode

When one blogs, one's goal should always be to brag.  Always.  I rock.  I am awesome.  I shred. I am epic.  I am killer.

Never admit weakness.  Ever.  Unless that weakness is about how awesome you are.  I think my biggest weakness is that I am so awesome, I am not sure that it is possible for me to get more awesome.

Alas, today, we are going a little off script.  There is no bragging and very little attempted humor.  Instead, much like the Different Strokes episode with the dirty old man, the Family Ties episode about bullemia (I am certain the spelling is wrong), or the Saved By the Bell episode of Jessi on speed, this blog is serious.

For close to the past month, I have been having nightmares everynight.  I rarely have nightmares.  Usually I have pretty vivid and good dreams.  However, this past month, 5-6 nights per week, I have been having terrible dreams.  It is starting to get to the point where I don't want to go to bed because I am dreading another nightmare.  I really am not liking this and not sure what is causing it.  I am sure it will pass, but it is getting stressful and starting to effect my days.  I have always been a fairly moody person, even under best case scenarios, but with my lack of sleep, I seem to be even moodier.  That is not a good thing.  I just want a good night of sleep.  Hopefully tonight.

Downward Dog and Shane...and my lifechanging moment!

I was looking forward to this moment ALL day yesterday. It is a time when I get to really dive deep into the hippy that lies within me. At 5:30pm yesterday, I was lucky enough to get to go to Shane's yoga class. Before I go further, I must tell you all a little about Shane...also known as, my long long hippy love. My slight obsession with Shane is actually a bit odd in that he is not the typical person I would have such feelings for. For one, he has long curly hair. He also wears lulu lemon which I think should clearly be a store only for girls. He also openly proclaims he is "addicted to yoga." You should always question someone that openly proclaims that right? Still, there is just something about his gentle touch a soothing voice that brings me back to him on a weekly basis. Okay so enough about that b/c I think I am even making MYSELF nauseous!

So to get to the point of the story...my big "moment" or "awakening"...I was in downward dog, it was about 100 freakin degrees inside, sweat dripping everywhere, and I felt like there was a good chance I was going to completely collapse b/c I was so incredibly dizzy, not to mention my eyes burned from the gallons of sweat dripping in them (and I pay to do this??? wtf???). So Shane begins one of his long talks.... He talked about the fire with in us....that within each and every one of us is some sort of fire, an incredible power, that if we ever came to a state of emergency, we could do incredible things...like lift a car (yes, he really did say that). He went on and on, and the point is, as hokey pokey and ridiculous as this sounds, I find myself in total agreement with him. It made me think of when I used to play rec soccer and my dad was the coach. We were in the County Cup down on Coronado Island. Our team was full of a bunch of misfits and really didn't deserve to be there in any shape or form. We were by far the WORST team there. So before the first game, my Dad gave a little talk to our team...it was what I would later call, the "Any Given Day" speech. In a nut shell, in sports (or in anything in life) or any given day, anything is possible. We went on in the tournament going undefeated til the finals. To this day, I have absolutely NO clue how we won ANY of those game.

So as I was in downward dog, Shane gentle caressing my back (hehe), I listened to his story, thought of my dad, and thought about my running...that is exactly why I love running; it's the anything is possible mindset, that you can be greater than you are on any given day.

The point of the whole story is that as the class progresses, and I had this deep intellectual moment in my head....I was left thinking, holy crap, I'm a freaking hippy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!

Mistaken Identity

As previously discussed, yesterday was track day!  First things first... the data:

4.5 mile warm up.
12 x 400m - averaging 75.5 with my buddy Jim.
1 mile warm down.

I must admit that was a pretty good workout... Just kidding it was awesome!  Like Me!!  Now let's back it up to the beginning.  I agree to meet Jim at the Power Tower.  That's what I call the track because the wattage cottage was already taken.  Also, please ignore the completely phallic implication from such a name... it is purely coincidental.

Anyways, as Jim and I finish our rocking 4.5 mile warm up, I see the following:

{Note a Picture of a Blonde Girl in Yoga Pants was supposed to be inserted here.  However, typing that into google one gets many NSFW pictures.  So no picture today}

Anyways, I see a blond girl in black yoga pants, with her hair pulled up, wearing big black sunglasses.  She also had the same height, weight and build of a certain blonde hippie I know.  Without even thinking for a moment that it might not be the same person, I run up behind her as she is stretching on the track and say...

"I'm guessing you showed up at the track just to see how awesome I am."  Then she turns around to reveal that I don't know her.  Fuck me.  I must have turned as red as my shirt and told her that I thought that she was someone else.

This has actually happened to me at least 5 other times in my life.  When will I learn?  Very unepic.

Elf'n'Moonbeam

Zeus, as usual, is correct....ANY real runner knows Tuesdays are TRACK day! Because he and I are so great, we make the best of this day. However, what makes us different is that I, Moonbeam, take my training a bit more seriously....I mean, I have been putting in some seriously HUGE runs lately....including my super long run of two hours that covered all but maybe 10miles...can you say epic? Anyway, back to main point here (bragging about myself) is that unlike Zeus, I actually got my workout done this MORNING...I wasn't lazy like him, doing whatever his hippy-lawyer self does during the days. Nope, I woke up, headed over to wattage cottage (ie Frogs), and just completely DESTROYED the treadmill. (orrrrr....was it the other way around???) I was originally going to do my killer 20 seconders. But I stepped on the deathmill, I mean treadmill, and just felt SMASHING. So, I decided to ramp it up. With crowds in awe, utterly amazed at my lightening fast speeds, I ran a 1200 (yep one whole 1200....pretty awesome) + 10x40sec (yep doubled my interval time) + yet another 1200. Let's just say I killed it. I was lucky enough to have some poor old man, I mean fan, next to me, who continuously tried talking to me while I was trotting along like a gazelle.

So, my point being, dear Zeus, although your physique and charm may be unparalleled, I may have you beaten in the running department ;)

.....more to come later, just had to respond because I knew you wanted to here about my awesomeness.

Oh YEAH...side note!
So today while in my prayer circle, while in deep reflection, I realized that I have something in common with, you guessed it, ....ELF! Yep, I realized as I was smelling my hemp seed oil that I am completely obsessed with real maple syrup and that I too, like Elf, would love to have a bowl of pasta with the magical syrup poured on top....So, as I left breakfast this am, I decided I may need to steal some of this KILLER good stuff....

Track Day!

Today (Tuesday), as any dedicated runner would know, is Track Day!  I am very excited to bring my awesomeness on the road for others to see.  Tonight, after the completion of this deposition, I will be at UCSD track for 400's!  I know what you are thinking... can the world handle that much awesome?  Honestly, I don't know.  I just don't know.  My arms will be on display.  My chest will be heaving and most importantly I will be rocking the runner shorts.  Women will be swooning.  World look out.  Everyone knows that it will be epic.  I would take pictures, but I am worried my iPhone will melt.

Now for yesterday's topics in one quick paragraph (make sure you keep up):

I love lists.  I do.  The simplicity and order to them cannot be matched.  There isn't even a question, you must Garmin!  Your muffins are better than pannikans?  I actually don't doubt that, but am amazed you would say such a thing.  You like Kumquats (a fruit with a sweet exterior and a bitter inside), I wonder if this says something about you.  This will need to be further analyzed.  I have no opinion about patchouli oil.  I even had to look up how to spell it.  However, I do know that hippies love the natural things in life (patchouli oil, hemp, prayer circles, and trust falls). I can't comment at this time as to how you smell, I haven't sniffed you in awhile, but you definitely are great.  And of course, no one can argue that you don't indeed look smashing!!

[And a deep breath]

Okay, I must admit that such a long paragraph kind of hurts my eyes in blog format.  Nevertheless, in order to entertain my readers (all one of them), I will soldier on.  That song is indeed awesome.  However, I can't determine if it is a happy or sad song.  I really need to think about the lyrics.  All I know is there is so much passion in his voice.  It gives me goosebumps.

Finally, I would like to point out that you eat daily at a place that has a picture of Obama on the wall.  Allow me to paint a picture for you of the typical Obama supporter:

Lyndsey, I mean Moonbeam, I fear you might be a hippie.  The next thing you know you will be throwing away your razors and growing dreads.  I am concerned.

To Garmin or not to Garmin, that is the question....

Today was a day of many realizations....as we hippies would say, it was quite an awakening. I have my prayer Gods to thank.

Below you will find just a few of the epic realizations I came to...

A. I realized that Zeus has quite the affinity for lists. ;) It must be the hippy-lawyer in him...hehe.
B. My muffins are better than pannikins! Yep, that's right, I bake a ridiculously epic muffin. I should take a picture, bc I know you want to see them!
C. I'm obsessed with Kumquats. Just can't get enough...something about the sweet exterior and disgustingly sour inside that just makes me beg for more. It's kinda like a track workout, while running a 400, you hate it, curse it, then after it's done, back on the line for more. Or maybe that's just me...because I'm so great and running is CLEARLY so easy for me.
D. And most importantly, I think I may officially be converted to not only wanting, but NEEDING a Garmin!!!! (more to come on that when I brag about my workouts)

Now, I must take a moment to respond to Zeus' comments...which were "jammed pack with greatness"....hahahahahahah
1. What's with you and the patchouli oil!?!?!?!!? I don't even know how to spell that word! Just admit it, I smell great, I am great, and I look...smashing. :)
3. Sunday Run...should have been titled Sunday slow jog/walk...but yes, my walk was epic. Maybe I should find a race to train for....any ideas? Then I would have more reason to post, blog and BRAG about my wonderful self.
4. That song is KILLER! I actually do like that song and for some reason, the lyrics remind me of you....with is...odd. ;)

To wrap things up, today at the commune, one of our heroes made an appearance, singing one of his favorite songs, "New York, New York"

A Blog of Many Thoughts

If there is one thing I have learned as a new blogger, it is that each blog must have a theme (ie:  I Am Awesome; Why I am Awesome; Why Others Think I am Awesome; How Much Awesomeness Can I Give the World?; etc.).

Well today, I am going to go a little "off book" and provide a blog of many thoughts.  Now, I know what you are thinking, "don't you mean random thoughts?"  Nope, random isn't awesome.  Instead, these many thoughts are just like a bundle of gifts to the world, each a bit different, but each jammed pack full of greatness.

1.  Perfume.  I have never thought that you smelled anything other than quite nice.  However, I never pegged it as perfume . . . maybe some sort of patchouli oil.  :)

2.  Me a hippie?  Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaa  hahahahahahahahaaaaaa ahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahhhahhhahaaaaaaaa.  In other words, no.  However, as I have told you in the past, if flip flops were socially acceptable, I would wear them all the time . . . except for when I run of course.

3.  Your Sunday run.  Wow, 2 hours?  That is pretty impressive, pace be damned.  The Sunday run is about time on your feet, not pace.  Why did you run so long?  I am guessing it had something to do with wanting to eat all that Easter candy.

4.

I love this song.  Simply love it.  The passion this guy has when he sings this song is really powerful, especially at the end with the lyrics:

I'm so afraid of waking
Please don't shake me
Afraid of waking
Please don't shake meeeeeeeee . . . .

Thoughts?  Or I am just really weird.

5.  And now the most important topic . . . . My epicness.  Why I am so epic?  Well ....

 Enough said.

Perfumed Easter Egg

First off, I would like to wish Zeus a Happy Easter. I hope in between all your killer Sunday Run and "smashing" lift sessions, you found some time to relax and replenish your protein stores ;).

Also, I would like to address the perfume comment. Since you apparently thought I did NOT wear perfume, I'm lead to believe you must think I stink! What the heck!?!?!?! Let's clear things up, I'm NOT a hippy. Keep dreamin...possibly, YOU are the hippy and you are just trying to keep all attention off of yourself? Actually no, the more I think about it, there is absolutely NOTHING hippy about you...except that you wear flip flops :)

Ok, on to the important stuff. Time for me to brag about my amazing self. Today I ran 2 hours. What was SOOOOO epic about my run was that I started so fast....I felt so good....then, a long way into it (about 5min), I started getting tired and got slower, and slower, and slower....ummmm, and slower. In one word, KILLER. ie...yeah, it killed me :). While running, I did have a moment...a moment when I realized that Zeus maaaaaay be right; I think I need a garmin. Wow, did I say that? I just think with the Garmin, my posts would be way more killer. Also, it would allow more people to stalk me and we know how many people would LOVE to do that. Oh wait, maybe not. :(

To wrap things up, first I would like to request Zeus STOP COMPLAINING about being tired...get over it! What are you .... 40??? And Last, just have to say today, Easter, was totally 100% killer!!!! I got to volunteer at church and take care of 4/5th graders and successfully made it out alive...total shocker! And got to eat my fair share of healthful eats!!!!!!!!!

The Birth of a Cake

First, it would be terribly non-epic of me if I didn't first say how KILLER Lyndsey's first blog was.  That girl can bring it... like a hippie with a hookah.  However, her writing name leaves a bit to be desired.  When you write on the Zeus blog, you need to a name as epic as the writing.

Second, some information was disclosed that really rattled my beliefs to their very core... Lyndsey wears perfume.  I don't believe that a hippie has EVER worn perfume.  What does this mean?  Have I been wrong this whole time?  I might need to re-evaluate this issue and many of the things in my life that I took as fact in a future blog.

Now for the good stuff... the birth of a cake.  Below is the box of cake mix:

The cake has been baked.  However, the real magic has yet to begin.  What am I going to do to the cake?  What will be done to make it the object of Lyndsey's desires?  You will have to check back on the blog to find out!!

Finally, let's talk about the most important thing when it comes to blogging... AWESOMENESS.  Who's awesome?

Wait, wait... not only are you awesome for reading this, but more importantly I'm AWESOME!  What makes me awesome?  Well today I shredded my muscles with a 7.5 mile run.  For mere mortals, that would be enough, but not for me.  I then maxed out with a heavy dose of weights.  No spotter for me.  Oh yeah baby!

Now since a champion needs his rest, even if he did sleep until 11:00 am this morning - due to someone keeping him up wayyyyy too late the night before :) - he needs to get to bed.  The early morning Sunday run is calling.  So time to finish the cake and the blog, and wish his favorite (non-hippie???) co-blogger a Happy Easter.

Zues out.

The Modern Day Hippy

Wow, I am so excited to finally have this killer opportunity to talk about how epic all my workouts are! I feel like I should be taking a picture of myself right now just so you can all see my excitement!!!

To begin, I would like to clear up some of the comments my "fellow blogger" had... He seems so think I am a hippy because I go to the Commune at least twice a day. Because I shower at least 3 times a day, I am clearly not a hippy. In addition, as if that is not enough evidence, I wear perfume, am extremely conservative, and am about as anti-universalism as you can be. To be fair, however, I do love "The Commune" and eat my fair share of granola and muffins....mmmm muffins.

Now on to the point of this whole blog....bragging about ourselves right? Well, I sorta laughed yesterday after "Zeus" (hahahahahhaahha) gave me the book Once a Runner. That is exactly how I feel! ie....used to be a runner, and now am a "jogger". Still, I must mention my KILLER workout I had last week. It included all of 10x20sec fast. I have decided that 20sec is the PERFECT time duration for an interval. It's just long enough to say you did something, but short enough to have any sort of beneficial impact. :) Now that I am blogging, I will start taking pictures of all the epic places I do my 20sec pickups...because I know you want to know ;)

Oh and before I sign off...I must comment on Zeus' canned food pic....ummmm, I'm really hoping that is just where he stores his essentials in case there is a natural disaster. There is NO way that a man with such a physique could possibly eat CANNED CHICKEN!!! ewwww!!! Go to the commune!

The First Blog

The first Zeus blog. In a word, "killer." Here I will talk about how awesome, epic and killer I am. Washboard abs . . . epic. Statuesque chest . . . awesome. You get the point. Since this is the first blog, I thought I would keep it short and simple. There will be plenty of time for me to talk about how awesome I am.

Also, there will be plenty of time for me to talk about how epic my fellow blogger is. We'll call her Venus, the awesome goddess of clean hippies.

To get you warmed up, I will talk about my awesome cooking skills. Only the best ingredients for me.

Till next time. Zeus out.
